| Start of the trip: gate B24 in Düsseldorf, 06/07/03 |
Pulkovo's Tupolev 154M to St.Petersburg |
Do other aircraft also have a sign 'Cut out here'? |
Arrival at Tolmachevo, Novosibirsk, 07/07/03 |
Also from Petersburg to Novosibirsk we had a Tupolev 154M |
| After registration for the conference in Akademgorodok, there was a short excursion to downtown Novosibirsk |
Kees Koster's wish was to sit here at this small church, St. Nicholas Chapel at the geographical center of Novosibirsk, for a few hours enjoying the weather and waiting for us to pick him up on the way back |
Lenin cum suis in front of Samsung |
Ploschad Lenina in front of the opera which has, according to our guides, the largest dome in the world |
Nobody could explain me what the idea behind these sculptures was |

| Because of the festival of Ivan Kopalla our guide didn't want to show us the parks; the idea behind this festival is that it is allowed to throw water over innocent bystanders and apparently she was afraid of the water and I must admit that they typically aim for the women; here you can see some people chasing others and the water on the ground does not come from the rain |
These Soviet stars are still being lighted at night |
Not only the parks were danger areas: also out on the streets you had people like this guy trying to surprise other people with water |
Next day, 08/07/03, we went to the local train museum |
Sorry, I forgot to write down the details of the trains I took pictures of |
| Some of the trains looked as if they were kept in a proper condition to use them again; look at the grease... |
Maybe someone had a little bit too much Vodka before he painted this sign? |
| There were many trains for specific uses |
This one was used to align the rails on which it was driving; unfortunately we could not get a demonstration of how this worked |
| This one was called 'Mixer' |
Back in Akademgorodok I went out for a walk; this is the main building of the university |
Koptyuga's statue without |
and with flashi; not much difference |
The Russian version of our 'Jonge Onderzoekers Club' |

| Lavrentev, the scientist who founded the city Akademgorodok about 45 years ago |
Reconstruction of the main street Morskii Prospect |
House of science for the Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences; this is where the conference was held |
Inside the archeological and ethnographical museum in Akademgorodok where they have two mummies that were found in Altai around 1993; unfortunately we were not allowed to take pictures of their masterpieces so I took a picture of this house of the gods on the left (no it is not a dog house!) instead |
The name of the museum |
| The entrance; from left to right you see: nn, Jelena Sanko, Jean Beney, Anna (our guide), nn, Torben Mogensen, Tony Hoare and Yuri Klimov |
